Snowshoeing and Skiing
A beautiful day for touring the Moosehead region.

Cross Country Skiing & Snowshoeing

Winter in Moosehead is not just for snowmobilers. More and more people are discovering the joys of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. There are more then 100 miles of groomed ski trails just for you, along with miles and miles of ungroomed possibilities for snowshoers.

In the center of the Moosehead Lake Region is famous Moosehead Lake, which is surrounded by mountains, ponds, and forests. Those traveling via cross-country skis and snowshoes enjoy gliding through spruce and pine forests with incredible views of frozen waterfalls, mountains, ponds and lakes. These sports provide the perfect retreat for nature lovers wanting to catch a glimpse of moose, deer, eagles, rabbits and other native animals, or the fun of determining who made all the tracks that intersect your path! Birding is an additional activity that skiers and snowshoers can easily enjoy. Trekking in the Moosehead Region is peaceful, scenic and a wonderful way to discover the many subtleties of the area.

Hiking trails are perfect for experienced snowshoers as they can offer both visual and aerobic challenges not found on flat terrain. Get out your map, stuff you backpack and enjoy the winter views!

Strap on your skis, or snowshoes, and discover why these activities are growing in popularity.
