Steamship Cruises
The Moosehead Marine Museum in downtown Greenville
features a masterpiece called the Katahdin---affectionately known
as "The Kate". This steamship was built in 1914 by Bath Iron Works,
and was one of five ships that provided transportation services
on Moosehead Lake. It traveled from Greenville all the way to the
north end of the lake to Seboomook and Northeast Carry, providing
services for the logging industry, and transporting visitors to
sporting camps and the grand hotels of that era. The Kate has since
been restored, and delights visitors with steamship tours of Moosehead
Lake. From Memorial Day through the fall foliage season a variety
of tours are offered, from 2 hour sunset cruises to 6 hour cruises
to Sugar Island and Mount Kineo. The views of Moose Mountain, the
Spencer Mountains, and Mount Katahdin are quite breathtaking when
seen from the upper deck of the ship. Special cruises are also available
by reservation.
