This Derby is for Lake Trout (Togue) caught in Moosehead Lake only. No other fish can be entered.
All fish entered in the Derby must be caught between 12:01 am Friday, January 27h and the close of
the Derby at 4:00 pm January 29th. You must be in line at 4:00 pm January 29, 2012 to have your fish
weighed to be included in the Derby. Derby ticket sales end at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 28, 2012.
You must have a valid entry form to have your fish weighed.
Fish can be weighed at the Masonic Hall in Greenville or the Moosehead Bait and Tackle in Rockwood.
Weigh stations will be open Friday 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Saturday 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm and Sunday 12:00 pm -
4:00 pm. A weigh station will be available at the Beaver Cove Marina on Saturday and Sunday same
hours as Greenville. All fish except potential winning fish will have a fin clipped and be returned
to the fisherman who will be responsible for properly disposing of their catch. All fish must be free
of ice, snow, & visible bait and/or tackle before being weighed.
Any fish which might be a contender for one of the three cash prizes may be retained by the weigh
station. Those fish retained by the weigh station will not have their fin clipped. Entrants with
potential winning fish may be required to provide the weigh stations with the exact location of their
catch. The top three winners will be required to sign an affidavit that their winning entries were
caught in Moosehead Lake between January 27th and January 29th 2012 and may be subject to interviews
by the Judges. All winning fish may be retained and examined by the Judges and Inland Fish and
Wildlife. In all matters the decision of the Derby Judges will be final.
The Derby will be postponed by the Judges in the event that Moosehead Lake does not have a safe
thickness of ice and the Derby will be rescheduled for the earliest safe weekend. All Maine Ice
Fishing Regulations must be followed and all winners unless exempt will be required to provide
proof of a valid fishing license.
Three prizes will be awarded for the first, second & third largest togue. Winners will be ranked
by weight. First tiebreaker will be the longest length; second tie breaker will be the earlier
time weighed. Prizes for the three largest togue are $1,500 1st place, $500 2nd place, and $250
3rd place. A $250 cash prize will also be awarded to one of the entries in the fish pool.
Anglers with valid entry forms will receive one entry in the fish pool for each fish they bring
to a weigh station up to a maximum of five fish for the Derby. Family tickets allow a maximum
of fifteen fish to be entered in the fish pool. Please note that only one fish of the five can
be over 18 inches for each angler and the rules require togue to be 14 inches or longer. Fish pool
prize drawings will start at 4:00 pm on Sunday, January 29, 2012, no prizes will be drawn until
all fish have been checked in from anglers who were in line at 4:00 pm. Remember one of the fish
pool prizes is $250 cash so bring in your five fish! Fish pool winners must pick up their prize
by 12/31/2012, after this date prizes will be recycled for the next Derby.
