    Moose Mainea Kid's Quest Fest
    A Quest Fest will be held this spring in conjunction with Moose Mainea. The Natural Recourse Education Council’s Maine Woods Explorers, Charlotte White Center’s Life Jackets Program, the Appalachian Mountain Club and a volunteer from the National Park Service are putting together a number of area Quests to produce a Quest Booklet. These Quests will highlight the region’s natural and historical assets, and create an opportunity for participants to explore and learn about the communities, landmarks and natural resources that is the North Maine Woods.

    Moose River Canoe & Kayak Race
    The annual Moose River Canoe Race will be held on Saturday, June 14th, 2008. An annual event of the Moosehead Lake Region's Annual Moose Mainea Celebration, a month-long celebration honoring the Moosehead Lake region's favorite residents - The MOOSE! The canoe race is dedicated to the memory of the late Fred Reckards, a well known Moosehead area canoe builder. Canoe race participants may enter one of numerous classes of canoes & kayaks, including a unique class for wooden rib & plank. Awards for first, second, and third place in each class will be given. All participants will receive a race t-shirt. The race begins on Brassua Lake and end at the Rockwood Public Landing on Moosehead Lake. Racers must cross Brassua Lake, portage around Brassua Dam, anegoiate the waters of the Moose River to Moosehead Lake, for a total distance of nearly eight miles. Start time is scheduled for 11 AM, and registration will begin at the Rockwood Community Center at 8 AM. A pre-race breakfast will be held beginning at 7:30 AM.

    The Moosehead Lake Fisheries Coalition will be hosting the Moosehead Lake Togue Fishing Derby on June 21 - 22, 2008. There will be cash prizes awarded to the three largest togue (lake trout) of $600, $400 and S$250, a cash prize for the smallest togue (lake trout) of $250 and the Grand Door Prize Old Town Predator 160 Canoe.
